Ok, I will probably have a semi-"leave of absence" of my own soon, because my gaming rig's motherboard has failed. I probably won't be on vent often, since my laptop is now running Kubuntu primarily (most of the time I used vent on my gaming rig), and Ventrilo on GNU/Linux cannot transmit audio on a vent server without the Speex codec in use by the server.
The motherboard is an Asus A8N-SLI, and it has had a problem starting the chipset fan for a while, but I just manually removed the cover and started it by hand, and it was infrequent. It started to become more frequent this month. Later I had problems in-game with Source games with "received fragment out of order" and I just thought it was a problem with my Wi-Fi card, so I switched it with a wifi card that was in use by another computer in the house. But then I had the same problems and became concerned. Then I lost the second partition on my Data HDD (Music and movies, and several games) I went on without it, and this week it had problems starting and problems crashing. Now it won't start at all, and now I'm going to try to get it replaced. _________________

Asus hasn't been making quality mobos lately like they used to. I guess they figured, "Hey, our name is good, word of the mouth, etc, let's cut manufacturing costs." I caught on after THREE of my friends had 2, 5, and 9 month Asus boards fail. Good luck man. |

I always get the chipset error and I have the same Motherboard. Hope that doesn't happen to me.
Hopefully I'll be getting an upgrade with dual core and all that new stuff later this year/next year. My computers kinda aging and alot of stuff crashes. Still works great for what I play though. _________________ Check out this mod!
